Hiking is a popular thing to do around Medano Lake; Music Pass Trail is a perfect local trail, and camping is available at Great Sand Dunes Oasis. This lake is one of the great places here in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. And if that's not enough, there's a heap more to do close to Medano Lake. Don't miss out on a trip to Great Sand Dunes National Monument if you're       here at Medano Lake, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Rainbow Trail. A delightful close by hotel is Alamosa-Days Inn, and you don’t have to go far from Medano Lake to catch a sight of the water at McKinley Clay Dam. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Medano Lake, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. For the period of the wintertime highs are typically in the 30's; all through the dark hours in the wintertime at Medano Lake temperatures                  sink to the 0's. At Medano Lake you don’t see much precipitation; most of the rain falls all through August, and January on the other hand is the driest.
