Near Medano Lake you hit upon the Music Pass Trail which is a wonderful hiking trail, and if you came to camp Pinyon Flats Campground is a perfect spot to do that. This place, the Sangre De Cristo Mountains, has so much outdoors exciting stuff. It is very dried up here at Medano Lake regularly; the month with most of the rain is August while January is mostly the driest month. Man, is there loads of cool stuff to do in the neighborhood       of Medano Lake. There are brilliant sites to look at along the Rainbow Trail, and dry warm beds await you at Days Inn Alamosa. At Medano Lake all through the summer highs are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 40's. Highs during the wintertime are regularly in the 30's; overnight lows throughout the winter for Medano Lake tend to be in the 0's. If you adore the outdoors you'll adore it here in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains.                  Camping at Great Sand Dunes Oasis is always a great experience, and McKinley Clay Dam is scenic.
