Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 40's. Highs through the wintertime are typically in the 30's, and overnight lows throughout the wintertime for McKinley Reservoir tend to be in the 0's. All year is a fine time in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains if you have a thing about the outdoors. McKinley Reservoir is near Creager Dam which is a striking place without doubt worth stopping at; going for a hike on the Bear Creek Trail is always a delightful adventure. This lake is so wonderful. Murray Reservoir is a nearby lake that you could go to; the Horse Ranch Trail is a great hiking trail nearby. Life's too short to enjoy all the                  cool stuff in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Great Sand Dunes National Monument is a brilliant location next to McKinley Reservoir. You just can't picture the amount of outdoors fun stuff the area close to McKinley Reservoir has to offer. There's so much to do here at McKinley Reservoir that you need to camp here for a while, Pinyon Flats Campground is a great place for that; if you get bored of McKinley Reservoir you could also check out close by Creager Reservoir. McKinley Reservoir is a beautiful lake in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. If you came to camp Cross D Bar Trout Ranch is a good site to do that; it's a great idea to check out Bruff Creek.
