This lake is one of the great places here in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. This lake is so wonderful. McKinley Clay Dam is gorgeous and it's near McKinley Clay Reservoir, and if you came for an overnight stay Pinyon Flats Campground is a brilliant site to camp. Go for a hike on the Music Pass Trail, and a visit to Great Sand Dunes National Monument is recommended.       Hiking is a popular thing to do around McKinley Clay Reservoir; Rainbow Trail is a fine local trail, and not far from McKinley Clay Reservoir you'll find Medano Lake which is a scenic lake. All through the months of summer, highs usually are in the 80's at McKinley Clay Reservoir. Summer overnight lows sink down to the 40's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 30's, and through the dark hours in the winter at McKinley Clay Reservoir temperatures plunge                  to the 0's.
