McKinley Clay Reservoir is one of the lakes here in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. This lake is so wonderful. Visiting Great Sand Dunes National Monument is just something you need to do if you haven't yet, and if you came for an overnight stay Great Sand Dunes Oasis is a good location to camp. You absolutely have to love the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Why not camp at Pinyon Flats Campground while you're here       at McKinley Clay Reservoir, and there's always McKinley Clay Dam to take a look at next to McKinley Clay Reservoir. There's wonderful hiking along the Music Pass Trail, and the Marble Mountain Trail offers hiking at its best. McKinley Clay Reservoir is pretty arid ordinarily; August is the wettest month with most rain while January is typically the driest month. For the period of the summertime at McKinley Clay Reservoir temperatures are ordinarily in                  the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 40's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's with temperatures at McKinley Clay Reservoir dipping down into the 0's during winter nights.
