Many people like to go to McDonald Reservoir. Now, you may think that's a heap but there's even more entertaining things to do here in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Be careful coming to McDonald Reservoir, you might not ever want to go back home again. The West Peak Trail offers hiking at its best; hiking is a popular thing to do around McDonald Reservoir; Apishapa Trail is a magnificent local trail. Not much precipitation falls here at McDonald Reservoir;

This lake is so wonderful. McDonald Reservoir is not the only spot nearby, Ojo Verde Reservoir is a nearby lake, and on a wonderful day you obtain a good sight of The Island from McDonald Reservoir. And if that's not enough there's loads more exciting things
to do in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Eldora is a nice local ski area, and if you came to camp Potato Patch Campground is a great location to do that. Good hiking is available along the Wahatoya Trail. There's so much to do here
at McDonald Reservoir that you need to camp here for a while, Monument Lake Resort is a delightful place for that. After a long day outdoors Rio Cucharas Inn And Restaurant is a great site to spend a night or two, and a great location is Dry Canyon.
