For the period of the months of summer at McCullogh Reservoir highs are regularly in the 80's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 40's. For the duration of the wintertime the highs are mostly in the 30's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at McCullogh Reservoir       fall into the 0's. A day on the slopes of Durango is just what you need; hiking along the Highline Loop Trail is nice fun. McCullogh Reservoir really is in the middle of a striking outdoors paradise. If you need a place to stay Super 8 Durango/Purgatory is a delightful choice; McCullogh Reservoir is not the only location close by, Sullivan Reservoir is a close by lake. This lake is so wonderful. Here at McCullogh Reservoir there are plenty of folks from Durango;                  do take a hike on the Highline Trail. At McCullogh Reservoir you don’t see much rain; August is the wettest month with most rain; June is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. The skiing at Hesperus Ski Center is nice, and camping at Cotton wood RV Park is always a glorious experience. After a long day outdoors Best Western Durango Inn & Suites is a great place to spend a night or two, and a great site for whitewater paddling is Animas River. A great view of picturesque Basin Mountain is available from McCullogh Reservoir, and McCullogh Reservoir is pleasant enough to spend more than a day at, Lightner Creek Campground is a pleasant local campground. It's always great to pop by McCullogh Spring, and a lake close by is Montoya Reservoir.
