If you are traveling by, why not stop by Martin Lake Reservoir. At Martin Lake Reservoir during the months of summer highs are in the 80's with overnight lows in the 50's. During the wintertime the highs are regularly in the 40's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Martin Lake Reservoir fall into the 0's. Lower Spring is a great local attraction; close by you hit upon the Black Hills Trail which is a good hiking trail. Not much

Lake Dam is not far at all from Martin Lake Reservoir.
Just can't get enough of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Martin Lake Reservoir has to offer, you can camp at Dakota Campground;
after a long day outdoors Knights Inn Walensburg is a magnificent place to spend a night or two. This lake is so wonderful. You get a splendid panorama of Walsen Crag from Martin Lake Reservoir; a round of golf at nearby Walsenburg
Golf Club is a great way to kill some time. The Sangre De Cristo Mountains scenery is always beautiful.
And that's not everything there is to do here in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Eldora, and on a fine day you can take a hike along the Wahatoya Trail.
