It's a good idea to go to East Fork Sand Creek, it's in the vicinity of Little Johnson Reservoir, and A McCray Reservoir is a wonderful lake close by. Hiking along the Palmer Trail is nice fun; camping is available at Wrangler RV Ranch and Motel. At Little Johnson Reservoir you don’t see much rainfall; most of the rain falls all through July; the driest month of the year is January. | | Reservoir is right by the Penrose Trail, and there are plenty of people from Colorado Springs here at Little Johnson Reservoir.
This lake is so wonderful. A brilliant nearby hotel is Homewood Suites by Hilton Colorado Springs Airport, and there are other locations here than Little Johnson Reservoir, for example Fountain Valley Reservoir Number 3. If you're here at Little Johnson Reservoir and you like golf, you can visit Vineyard Golf Club, and Holiday Inn COLORADO SPRINGS (AIRPORT) is a brilliant site to get some rest. Throughout
the summer months highs here at Little Johnson Reservoir get into the 70's. Through the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and all through the dark hours in the wintertime at Little Johnson Reservoir temperatures sink to the 0's.

Keep your eyes open. I've done the trail at least a dozen times, but my wife on her first and only trip found these mountain goats....

Hiked the Stanley Canyon trail with a friend and enjoyed the trail very much up to the reservoir. About half way up there is a ''V'' in the trail and you need to stay to the left or straight ahead. The trail leading up and to the right ends in scree and downed trees. It's a moderately strenuous trail up to the reservoir; but well worth it. Afterwards, we hiked up and past the reservoir and wanted to loop around and hit the lower Stanley trail but were unable to find the trailhead for it. We ended up blazing new ground and coming down Eagle Peak trail much to our surprise.... |

nice lake, easy to get to. Fits a couple of canoes. Some marshy area where people train their dogs. Fishing in 2007 was expected to be not the best due to the drought in 2004. We went twice in 2007, kids had a couple of bites, could see some people catching some smaller fish. Good lake for the ''I only have a few hours before the kids games'' kinda place.... |
