Man, is there plenty of cool things to do right next door to Lava Lake. Grass Gulch Spring is an inspiring place to take a look at while here, and everybody close by loves skiing at Beaver Creek. High temperatures at Lava Lake through the long summer days are in the 70's while overnight lows are mostly in the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and night lows through the winter for Lava Lake tend to be in the 0's. If only every site had this much
outdoors exciting things, what a great earth it would be. A tremendous nearby hotel is Beaver Creek West Condominiums, and there are plenty of folks from Edwards here.
This lake is so wonderful. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always check out nearby Lost Lake, and you have to unquestionably dedicate some time to Elkhorn Park while you're here at Lava Lake. Piney River has a glorious whitewater paddling spot close by, and the slopes of Vail

are so inviting noone can resist. Just can't get enough of the Park Range. Lakes? Sure, Box Canyon Lake is in the vicinity, and Piney Crossing Campground is a glorious campground nearby.
And that's not all the things to do here in the Park Range. McCord Pass is a delightful site to look at; The Westin Riverfront Mountain Villas is a glorious place to get some rest. From Lava Lake you get a fine panorama of Cottonwood Peak; if you're here you can take a hike along the Sheep Drive Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Lava Lake is a great spot to visit for more than one day, Learning Camp is a great spot to camp nearby, and going for a hike along the Piney Lake Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity.
And if that's not enough there's a heap more exciting stuff to do in the Park Range. Lava Lake is generally a quite waterless site; July is when you get the most rain here; February on the other hand is the driest. Lava Lake is one of the lakes here in the Park Range.
If you don't mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Eagle River, and hiking along the Rock Creek Trail is wonderful fun.

At the gate you leave the world behind. Nestled at the feet of North America's World Cup mountain, Beaver Creek is a custom-designed resort with the safe, unhurried feel of an Alpine hamlet. From the skating rink in the village square to chocolate-chip cookies served fresh from the oven each afternoon at the lifts, and from the ''Ivy League ski school'' to the world-famous performing arts center, this is perhaps the very best of luxury family skiing. And there is a mountain of prestigious awards for food, wine, and customer service to prove it....

Coveted as North America's top ski resort, Vail is an extraordinary winter vacation destination. Spanning seven miles are seven legendary Back Bowls, Blue Sky Basin and an expansive front side, blanketed last year with more than thirty-eight feet of powder snow. Under blue sky three hundred days a year and with more groomed terrain than anywhere on the planet, families reconnect and celebrate here from year to year and generation to generation. Coupled with the vision inherent in the spirit of Vail's founders, and a modern day commitment to excellence in all aspects of operation, the vacation experience is world class. From the Vail Snowsports School to the activities and festivals, the shops and spas, dining, nightlife and accommodations, Vail can credibly lay claim to being a resort like nothing on earth....

Upper Piney Lake
16 miles away
We had a great time hiking to Upper Piney Lake over 4th of July weekend, 2006. Although the views are out of this world, the hike will take everything out of you that you've got. I would highly recommend this hike. Make sure you have everything you need for AT LEAST 2 days. The hike to Upper Piney will take 8 hours (all up hill)...But only 4 hours to get back to Piney River Ranch....

Long very steep hike tried to make hike to the lake in one day and this is not probable. We are planning on a four day hike in and out with time to fish!...

Gore Range Trail
19 miles away
Well, exhilarating or not, you may want to consider parking your tent and self away from trees.  The forests in the Gore and elsewhere in Colorado are dying, particularly and immediately the pines.  The aspens are dealing plague also, but of a fungi and bacterial nature.  Do NOT camp near trees.......R BEEN MORE SCARED IN MY LIFE! We set up our tents just before dark as the rain was really starting to come down. The forecast predicted a few small isolated showers along the Continental Davide, earlier in the day. Isolated my ass- it rained hard for about 6 or 7 hours!!! It was around 10pm when I was awaken by a VERY unfamiliar loud crackling, popping, and snapping sound. I've never in my life heard anything that closely resembled the sounds I was hearing. The first one that woke me & lasted about 30 seconds, the next came about 5 minutes later and lasted a few seconds longer. This time after the same noises as before ended, there was a horrific crashing sound that shook the area where my tent was pitched. That's when I realized the tree's were falling due to the rain softening the soil around the Tree roots. I thought for  sure one of the up-rooted tree's were going to crush  me & my tent like a Grape. God must have lent a helping hand because in the morning we counted 17 tree's  that fell. One of the 40 foot tree's landed w/ in 20ft of my tent. That was the one that nearly made m...
