Lake of the Woods Dam is an interesting thing to check out, and hiking along the South Derby Trail is delightful fun. This lake is so wonderful. It's always great to have a look at Bessies Falls, and do take a hike on the Ute Trail. There's whitewater on Sweetwater Creek for all you adrenaline kick people, and Himes Peak can be seen from Lake of the Woods. You could also stop at Lake of the Woods while you're here at Lake of the Woods; it's nearby, and dry warm
beds await you at Oak Tree Inn Yampa.
Whohoo, so much exciting stuff in one place! Lake of the Woods rules! Nearby lakes? Sure, Lake of the Woods is close to Lake of the Woods, and Lake of the Woods is splendid enough to spend more than a day at, Shepherds Rim Campground is a splendid local campground. Throughout the summer highs here at Lake of the Woods get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 40's. The wintertime comes with highs in

the 20's, and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Lake of the Woods plunge into the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend White River - North Fork, and since you're here, you could explore Big Fish Creek.
Lake of the Woods is usually a relatively waterless site; throughout October this area sees the most rain, and January is the month with the least moisture. There's so much to do here at Lake of the Woods that you need to camp here for a while, Himes Peak Campground is a delightful place for that, and Lake of the Woods is right by the Oyster Lake Trail.

I've been going to Yampa since I was around 5 years of age. I'm not usually too keen on seeing new hotels being established in sleepy mountain towns, but The Oak Tree Inn is an exception. It's a welcome addition to this amazing little town and a great retreat when the snows come....

Yamcolo Reservoir
14 miles away
I fished last year and am coming back next week to fish again.  It is very nice to fish from a boat or bank, but I prefer boat....Wife and I where fishing Stagecoach, then we heard of Yamcolo, it was about 20 mins out of Yampa. We came around the corner of the earthen dam side, looked down the fish where jumpin all over the place grabbed the poles and it was off to the rodoe,15 fish as fast as we could 45min past sorry did not have camera going back this year in couple of weeks can't wait New Castle Colo, Apple Tree Park...

located at the foot of Blair Mountain Adams Lake is well worth the trip. Definatly a 4 wheel drive Jeep Trail but only a few miles from Elk lakes, Jet lake, Shadow Lake, Blair lakes , Crater Lake, Deep lake and bison lake. Lots of Cut throat trout, rainbows and browns. Most deffinatly more than a one day trip. Always plan for all kinds of weather, and definitely tent camping only....
