Take a side journey to Big Fish Creek, and you can go for a hike on the Ute Trail. A beautiful lake like Blue Lake close to Lake of the Woods is a tremendous place to stop at. White River - North Fork has a great whitewater paddling spot nearby, and going for a hike on the Oyster Lake Trail is always a magnificent adventure. This lake is so wonderful. A short journey       to Bessies Falls is always worthwhile; there's always Lake of the Woods Dam to explore near Lake of the Woods. But wait, there's more to do in close proximity to Lake of the Woods. Lake of the Woods is good enough to spend more than a day at, Shepherds Rim Campground is a good local campground; after a long day outdoors Rodeway Inn Glenwood Springs is a good location to spend a night or two. Lake of the Woods gets very little rain; of all the months in a year                  October is the one with the most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest. There's so much to do here at Lake of the Woods that you need to camp here for a while, Himes Peak Campground is a great location for that, and one of the major highlights of the surroundings of Lake of the Woods is Himes Peak.
