Why not stop by Lake Meriam if you're passing through these parts. You're most likely hooked on lakes, Horseshoe Lake Reservoir is one of those close by; a great nearby hotel is Knights Inn Walensburg. This lake is so wonderful. The slopes of Eldora are so inviting noone can resist. At Lake Meriam you don’t see much precipitation; August is when you get the most rain here; January on the other hand is the driest.

| | Meriam without first going for a hike along the Black Hills Trail; not far from Lake Meriam you obtain some good water scenery at Horseshoe Lake Dam. Don't try to stop me, cause I'm havin' a perfect time here at Lake Meriam. If you want to play some golf, you're in luck because Walsenburg Golf Club is in the vicinity; Rio Cucharas Inn And Restaurant is a great location to get some rest. not camp at Dakota Campground since you're here at Lake Meriam; good hiking is available along the Apishapa Trail.
A great spot to camp here at Lake Meriam is Lathrop, and a perfect panorama of gorgeous Walsen Crag is available.
For the period of the warm days of summer at Lake Meriam temperatures are mostly in the 80's with overnight lows in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's while Lake Meriam overnight low temperatures during the winter
are in the 0's. This lake is located in the wonderful Sangre De Cristo Mountains.
All the outdoors amusing stuff in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains will keep you coming back time and again. Go for a hike on the Wahatoya Trail, and don't leave Lake Meriam without first paying a visit to Cottonwood Spring.
