This lake is one of the great places here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. The high level of precipitation makes La Jara Reservoir a reasonably wet spot; March is the month that gets the most snow, and the driest month of the year is June. Soar down the rapids of Rio de los Pinos in a kayak, and good hiking is available along the Spruce Hole Trail. And if that's not enough there's a lot more entertaining stuff       to do in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. Alamosa Campground is a glorious campground nearby; you're most likely addicted to lakes, La Grulla Lake is one of those close by. This lake is so wonderful. Best Western Movie Manor is a brilliant place to get some rest. Go for a hike on the Conejos Stock Driveway, and La Jara Reservoir is near Fredd Gulch which is definitely worth going to. Just can't get enough of La Jara Reservoir. If you came for an overnight                  stay Ponderosa Campground is a nice place to camp, and hiking is a popular thing to do around La Jara Reservoir; Notch Trail is a tremendous local trail. This lake is so wonderful. Some of the water close by flows, like Jarosa Creek; probably you're looking for nearby lakes? Sure, Twin Lakes is just a very short distance away. Now, you may believe that's a load but there's even more exciting stuff to do here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. Get drenched paddling on Conejos River, and you can take a little trip to La Jara Dam while you're here at La Jara Reservoir. All through the summertime months at La Jara Reservoir highs are commonly in the 60's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 40's.
