The Sangre De Cristo Mountains scenery is always beautiful. Man, is there lots of enjoyable things to do in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. The summit of Bunker Hill can be observed from Kirkland Pit, and after a long day outdoors Best Western Rambler is a perfect location to spend a night or two. Not much rain falls here at Kirkland Pit; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain       while January is typically the driest month. Stanley Lake is a perfect lake in close proximity to Kirkland Pit, and a splendid site to camp here at Kirkland Pit is Dakota Campground. For the period of the long summer days highs here at Kirkland Pit get into the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 40's, and night lows in the 0's for Kirkland Pit. This lake is so wonderful.
