Sure, Lost Lake is in close proximity, and the Terror Trail offers hiking at its best. Whitewater paddling is great on Crystal River, and McClure Campground is a great local campground. This lake is so wonderful. Island Lake is right by the Hammond Trail, and the vista of Huntsman Mountain is delightful. After a long day outdoors Sunlight Mountain Inn is a delightful spot       to spend a night or two, and Sunlight Mountain is a very popular ski area in close proximity. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Munsey Ruby Stock Driveway, and Osgood Campground is a splendid campground nearby. The warmest time of the year at Island Lake comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Summer night lows dip down to the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 30's, and all through the dark hours in the winter at Island Lake temperatures                  drop to the 0's. Now, you may imagine that's a load but there's even more enjoyable stuff to do here at Island Lake. Dry warm beds await you at Carbondale-Days Inn; not far from Island Lake you'll stumble on Aspen Leaf Reservoir which is a pretty lake.
