     A spree to Mesa Verde National Park is worthwhile, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Horsecamp Number Three Reservoir; Stoner Stock Trail is a great local trail. Dolores River has a perfect whitewater paddling spot close by, and after a long day outdoors Days Inn Cortez is a pleasant site to spend a night or two. This lake is so wonderful. Why not take a refreshing hike along the McPhee Stock Trail. Lakes? Sure, School Section Reservoir is in the  
   neighborhood. So much cool stuff in the neighborhood of Horsecamp Number Three Reservoir, truly astonishing. Not far from Horsecamp Number Three Reservoir, you'll hit upon Morgan Cabin Reservoir which is a pretty lake, and if you came for an overnight stay Cozy Comfort RV Park and Mountain Retreat is a great place to camp.
Take a hike on the Frink Trail, and a great close by hotel is Dunton Hot Springs. Why not camp at Dolores River RV Park since you're
 
               here at Horsecamp Number Three Reservoir. Through the months of summer at Horsecamp Number Three Reservoir highs are frequently in the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's with temperatures at Horsecamp Number Three Reservoir dipping down into the 10's throughout winter nights.
Horsecamp Number Three Reservoir is commonly a rather dried up spot; October is the wettest month with most rain, and June is the month with the least moisture.

Puett Reservoir
A.M. Puett Reservoir was originally constructed in 1905, and then reconstructed in 1960. It contains 163 surface acres when full and is owned and operated by the Summit Reservoir and Irrigation Company. The lake is stocked with fish by the Colorado Division of Wildlife and open for public fishing from the bank and from trolling motor powered boats. No swimming is allowed. The lake is on private land and access is limited to 3 feet above the high water line....

Summit Reservoir
Summit Lake was constructed in 1905 and reconstructed and enlarged in 1938. It is owned and operated by the Summit Reservoir and Irrigation Company. It contains 402 surfqace acres when full. The lake is stocked with fish by the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) and open for public fishing. Public access is from highway 184 on the north side of the lake. There is a boat ramp. Fishing is allowed from the bank or from hand powered or trolling motor powered boats only. The public access is maintained by the DOW. The only facilities present is a boat ramp and a pit toilet. No fires, swimming or overnight camping is allowed....

We stayed in this campground mid-July 2006. Very efficient, friendly park. Adequate power, water, and sewage hookups. Rates were reasonable; and the manager did indicate that longer stays were discounted. Nice fenced dog run for our puppies to enjoy. The microbrewery in town has a wide selection of locally made beverages. I would gladly stop at La Mesa RV Park again....
