Whitewater paddling is great on San Miguel River; do take a hike on the Cottonwood Trail. This lake is one of the great places here in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains. While you're here at Hilkey Pond, you could also stop at scenic Monument Lake; in case you don’t mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on San Miguel River. This lake is so wonderful. Grassy Lake       is a nearby lake that you could explore, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Hilkey Pond; Moore Mesa Trail is a great local trail. And that's not all you can do here at Hilkey Pond. Camping is available at Antone Spring Campground, and Ouray Spring is always fun to check out. During the months of summer highs here at Hilkey Pond get into the 90's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 30's, and overnight lows                  through the winter for Hilkey Pond tend to be in the 10's. So much entertaining stuff to do here in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains, too fine to be true. Why not camp at Smokehouse Campground if you're here at Hilkey Pond, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Roubideau Trail. All year is a nice time in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains if you have a thing about the outdoors. During your spree to Hilkey Pond you'll meet some folks from Montrose for sure, and if you need a spot to stay Southgate Inns is a nice choice. This lake is so wonderful.
