Man, is there a lot of enjoyable stuff to do in the neighborhood of Hilkey Pond. If you need a site to stay Southgate Inns is a fine choice, and Hilkey Pond is a tremendous place to visit for more than one day, Antone Spring Campground is a tremendous place to camp nearby. There's no way anybody can get bored here in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains. Good hiking is available       along the Cottonwood Trail. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 90's to Hilkey Pond. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 30's, and night lows all through the winter for Hilkey Pond tend to be in the 10's. This lake is so wonderful. Don't leave Hilkey Pond without first going for a hike along the Roubideau Trail, and if you're here you will meet lots of people from close                  by Montrose. The Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains scenery is always beautiful. So many exciting things to do in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains, not enough time. Monument Lake is a nearby lake that you could visit; you can run the rapids of San Miguel River. Not much rainfall falls here at Hilkey Pond; throughout October this area sees the most rain; the driest month is June. Get your heart pumping on the wonderful whitewater of San Miguel River, and you can go for a hike on the Moore Mesa Trail.
