This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Comfort Inn & Suites; Herrera Reservoir is not far at all from Durango. Durango/Purgatory Super 8 Motel is a delightful site to get some rest, and nearby you hit upon the Highline Trail which is a pleasant hiking trail. Herrera Reservoir is mostly a rather dehydrated location; the month with most of the rain is August while June is the month with the least amount of       precipitation. Through the long summer days at Herrera Reservoir temperatures are mostly in the 80's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 40's. Through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's, and nighttime lows in the 0's for Herrera Reservoir. Alpen Rose RV Park is a great local campground, and there are great spots to discover along the Highline Loop Trail. A trip to Cottonwood Canyon is always fun, and you'll                  never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Durango while you're here. This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, Animas River offers some good whitewater, and Indian Spring is a glorious local attraction. Skiing at Hesperus Ski Center is one of those things you just have to do, and a lake nearby is Sullivan Reservoir. So much exciting stuff close to Herrera Reservoir, just extraordinary.
