The beauty of Hermit Lake is reason enough to stop by. Hermit Lake gets very little rain; most of the rain falls all through August while January is regularly the driest month. For the period of the summertime highs here at Hermit Lake reach the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. You just can't picture the amount of outdoors amusing things the area close to Hermit Lake has to offer. Going for a hike on the Venable-Comanche Trail is always a tremendous adventure, and no need to travel far to have a look at attention-grabbing stuff like Phantom Terrace. Alto Trail which is a tremendous hiking trail, and camping is available at Lake Creek Campground. This lake is so wonderful. You're almost certainly keen on lakes, Eureka Lake is one of those close by, and camping at North Crestone
Campground is always a nice experience.
A round of golf at nearby Challenger Golf Club is a glorious way to kill some time, and you could always explore Hermit Pass. This lake is located in the wonderful Sangre De Cristo Mountains.
The Hermit Lake Trail is a brilliant hiking trail right next door to Hermit Lake; Great Sand Dunes National Monument is a very splendid place to visit.
So many exciting things to do in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains, not enough
time. You must positively dedicate some time to Groundhog Basin while you're here at Hermit Lake; if the weather is delightful, you obtain a magnificent view of Eureka Mountain from Hermit Lake.

 | Trail is awful, disappearing and reappearing every now and again. Thorn bushes and trash cover what little trail is easy to navigate. Trail disappears completely before you actually reach the lake. Also it appears that an axe murderer has taken up residence in the upperwoods. Be careful and travel in large groups if you plan to try and make it to the lake. It is easy to get lost so mark your trail well.... |
