Hiking along the Old Tourist Trail is good fun; if you need a spot to stay Dunton Hot Springs is a pleasant choice. Dolores River RV Park is a tremendous local campground; you can have a wonderful hiking adventure along the East Rim Trail. You don’t have to go far from Grimes Reservoir to catch a sight of the water at Grimes Dam; of course, this is a great neighborhood for people who like lakes, A M Puett Reservoir is a lake around here. | | is Days Inn Cortez, and do take a hike on the Frink Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Grimes Reservoir is a nice place to visit for more than one day, Cozy Comfort RV Park and Mountain Retreat is a nice place to camp nearby, and a splendid place for whitewater paddling is Dolores River. All through the summer months here at Grimes Reservoir, high temperatures mostly get into the 80's with nighttime lows in the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's, | |

and after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Grimes Reservoir drop into the 10's. This lake is so wonderful. So much cool stuff in the vicinity of Grimes Reservoir, truly astonishing. Visiting Mesa Verde
National Park is just something you need to do if you haven't yet. Lakes are brilliant; Puett Reservoir is a lake that's right next door to Grimes Reservoir. It is very dried out here at Grimes Reservoir usually; most of the rain falls through October, and the driest of the months is June.

Puett Reservoir
 | A.M. Puett Reservoir was originally constructed in 1905, and then reconstructed in 1960. It contains 163 surface acres when full and is owned and operated by the Summit Reservoir and Irrigation Company. The lake is stocked with fish by the Colorado Division of Wildlife and open for public fishing from the bank and from trolling motor powered boats. No swimming is allowed. The lake is on private land and access is limited to 3 feet above the high water line.... |
Summit Reservoir
 | Summit Lake was constructed in 1905 and reconstructed and enlarged in 1938. It is owned and operated by the Summit Reservoir and Irrigation Company. It contains 402 surfqace acres when full. The lake is stocked with fish by the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) and open for public fishing. Public access is from highway 184 on the north side of the lake. There is a boat ramp. Fishing is allowed from the bank or from hand powered or trolling motor powered boats only. The public access is maintained by the DOW. The only facilities present is a boat ramp and a pit toilet. No fires, swimming or overnight camping is allowed.... |

La Mesa RV Park
 | We stayed in this campground mid-July 2006. Very efficient, friendly park. Adequate power, water, and sewage hookups. Rates were reasonable; and the manager did indicate that longer stays were discounted. Nice fenced dog run for our puppies to enjoy. The microbrewery in town has a wide selection of locally made beverages. I would gladly stop at La Mesa RV Park again.... |
