Campground is a glorious place to camp, and a fine place like Upper State Park here at George Lake is too good to miss. George Lake is a location that is reasonably dry ordinarily; July is the wettest month with most rain while February
is typically the driest month. There's just no way somebody can get bored here at George Lake. A journey to McCord Pass is always fun. That right there is lots of exciting things already but it goes on, the Park Range has it all.

Beaver Creek
11 miles away 8 PHOTOS Huge ski resort with tons of great runs. The snow is great too. I like the peaceful scenery as well.... BC Kids... Photo by Chris McLennan... At the gate you leave the world behind. Nestled at the feet of North America's World Cup mountain, Beaver Creek is a custom-designed resort with the safe, unhurried feel of an Alpine hamlet. From the skating rink in the village square to chocolate-chip cookies served fresh from the oven each afternoon at the lifts, and from the ''Ivy League ski school'' to the world-famous performing arts center, this is perhaps the very best of luxury family skiing. And there is a mountain of prestigious awards for food, wine, and customer service to prove it....

Upper Piney Lake
16 miles away We had a great time hiking to Upper Piney Lake over 4th of July weekend, 2006. Although the views are out of this world, the hike will take everything out of you that you've got. I would highly recommend this hike. Make sure you have everything you need for AT LEAST 2 days. The hike to Upper Piney will take 8 hours (all up hill)...But only 4 hours to get back to Piney River Ranch....

Gore Range Trail
19 miles away Well, exhilarating or not, you may want to consider parking your tent and self away from trees. The forests in the Gore and elsewhere in Colorado are dying, particularly and immediately the pines. The aspens are dealing plague also, but of a fungi and bacterial nature. Do NOT camp near trees.......l years since I've been there but let me tell you I'VE NEVER BEEN MORE SCARED IN MY LIFE! We set up our tents just before dark as the rain was really starting to come down. The forecast predicted a few small isolated showers along the Continental Davide, earlier in the day. Isolated my ass- it rained hard for about 6 or 7 hours!!! It was around 10pm when I was awaken by a VERY unfamiliar loud crackling, popping, and snapping sound. I've never in my life heard anything that closely resembled the sounds I was hearing. The first one that woke me & lasted about 30 seconds, the next came about 5 minutes later and lasted a few seconds longer. This time after the same noises as before ended, there was a horrific crashing sound that shook the area where my tent was pitched. That's when I realized the tree's were falling due to the rain softening the soil around the Tree roots. I thought for sure one of the up-rooted tree's were going to crush me & my tent like a Grape. God must have lent a helping hand because in the morning we counted 17 tree's that fell. One of the 40 foot tree's landed...
