Many people like to go to Garcia Lake. This lake is one of the great places here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. Be careful coming to the San Juan and Jemez Mountains, you might not ever want to return home again. There's perfect hiking along the Posos Trail, and a splendid panorama of striking Neff Mountain is available. Sure, Finger Lake is around here; if you came to camp El Vado Lake Camping Resort is a good place to do that. Garcia Lake sees pretty high levels of rainfall; March is the month that gets the most snow, and June is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. for a hike along the La Manga Stock Driveway, and not far from Garcia Lake you'll discover Trujillo Meadows Reservoir which is a wonderful lake. For the duration of the summer months at Garcia Lake highs are regularly in the 60's,
and all through the night it cools down to the 40's. Through the wintertime highs are commonly in the 30's, and overnight lows at Garcia Lake through the winter regularly descend into the 0's. There's so much to do here at Garcia
Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Trujillo Meadows Campground is a great place for that, and a wonderful nearby hotel is Best Western Movie Manor. This lake is so wonderful. If you don't mind getting covered with water,
you can always go whitewater paddling on Rio de los Pinos. Good hiking is available along the Red Lake Trail, and if you need a spot to stay Branding Iron Motel is a magnificent choice.

Trujillo Meadows Campground
In the 16 years that I have lived in the area, there has never been white water ( for rafting, canoeing, kayaking etc. I presume) in the Brazos. I think you are referring to the Chama River which starts in the Colorado San Juans and flows through New Mexico into the Rio Grande in Espanola ,NM. Plenty of white water there in the spring time....You seem to have missed letting people know about the great trout fishing at Trujillo Meadows. I have never been there that I haven't hooked a big one....

Spruce Hole Trail
While I have not had the pleasure of hiking any of its trails yet, I look forward to camping in this area. I ''scouted'' the dirt road into the Spruce Hole exit off of the main road. It is very lovely through this piece of wilderness. Lots of healthy pines, wildflowers, and plenty of wildlife too. Sorry I don't have any pictures, but if you're thinking about camping or hiking here... I highly suggest that you do!...

Rio Brazos
11 miles away This stretch is not do-able to the average boater. It is anything but. The given put-in and take-out coordinates put you through at least one mandatory portage on private property with a less-than-content owner. It's a two day trip, so there is at least one night of camping on private property. The run can only be done when the spring run-off is exactly right, and the V+ rating is not joking. This run is just not done. Go ahead and prove me wrong at your own risk....Note the 40' high waterfall about a mile in from the box downstream entrance. i have fished this many times, and think you would be crazy to run it, not to mention its all on private property....
Bear Lake Trail
15 miles away Bear Lake was surely a disappointment! I'd heard it had good fishing, but after puffing up a long, steep, and confusing trail (we lost our way more than once, delaying our arrival about an hour) we found the lake nearly dry; muddy, and infested with mosquitoes! Next time I'll save myself the bother and fish the Conejos. ...
Bandelier National Monument
