This lake is so wonderful. So much fun stuff right next door to Floyd Reservoir, definitely unbelievable. Don't leave Floyd Reservoir without first paying a visit to Mancos Spring; camping at Mancos is always a perfect experience. The Wheeler Trail is a glorious hiking trail close to Floyd Reservoir; Echo Basin Dude And Guest Ranch, LLC is a brilliant place to get some rest. High temperatures at Floyd Reservoir during the days of summer are in the 80's

High temperatures all through the wintertime are normally in the 30's, and night lows at Floyd Reservoir through the winter ordinarily drop into the 10's. This lake is so wonderful. MESA VERDE-CORTEZ is a good site to spend a night or two, and get wet paddling on San Juan River. Now, you may assume that's a heap but there's even more enjoyable stuff to do here in the Mesa Verde. You could also stop at Harrison
Reservoir since you're here at Floyd Reservoir; it's close by, and there is a great hiking trail nearby called the Whites Trail. Floyd Reservoir is one of the lakes here in the Mesa Verde. Near Floyd Reservoir you stumble on the APW
Trail which is a great hiking trail, and Floyd Reservoir is magnificent enough to spend more than a day at, Morfield Campground is a magnificent local campground. It is very arid here at Floyd Reservoir typically; the month with most of the rain is August, and June is when it's the driest.

Mormon Reservoir
 | 14 miles away The Mormon Reservoir is located on Hay gulch stream before it flows into La Plata River. In the late 1920's the Mormon Church in Utah paid to have the damn across Hay Gulch constructed for the Mormon village of Red Mesa. Water is stored in the reservoir until it is needed for farmers at Red Mesa. The water is released into the La Plata River and is measured for agricultural purposes during the drier part of the summer. Young men from Red Mesa built frame buildings on the rocky and wooded west hillside going into Hay Gulch. Until the damn was completed the workers stayed in these dwellings. All of the work on the earthen damn was done by hand and horse drawn equipment. Dynamite was used to blast boulders used on the damn to hold the water in place until needed. The impounded water becomes undrinkable by early summer when it has a strong odor. Water dogs (salamanders) and tadpoles become prolific as the summer advances. It contains 402 surfqace acres when full. The lake is stocked with fish by the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) and open for public fishing. Public access is from highway 184 on the north side of the lake. There is a boat ramp. Fishing is allowed from the bank or from hand powered or trolling motor powered boats only. The public access is maintained by the DOW. The only facilities present is a boat ramp and a pit toilet. No fires, swimming or overnight camping is allowed.... |
