The beauty of Elk Lake is reason enough to stop by. The San Juan Mountains scenery is always beautiful. Elk Lake gets a normal amount of yearly precipitation; August is when you get the most rain here while June is usually the driest month. And if that's not enough, there's lots more to do in the neighborhood of Elk Lake. You can catch a glimpse of Mesa Lato from Elk Lake, and camping at Elk Lake is great fun, Lost Trail Campground is a great local campground.

That right there is a lot of enjoyable things already but it goes on, the San Juan Mountains has it all. Get your pulse rate up on the brilliant whitewater of Vallecito Creek, and a lake nearby is Blue Lake. Summertime highs at Elk Lake generally tend to be in the 70's, and throughout the night
it cools down to the 30's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's with winter lows in the-10's overnight here at Elk Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Elk Lake is a splendid spot to camp, Thirtymile Campground is a splendid spot, and on a brilliant day you can take a hike along the Fern Creek Stock Driveway.
