Echo Canyon Reservoir is always a pleasure to visit. The San Juan and Jemez Mountains scenery is always beautiful. Echo Canyon Reservoir is a location that is rather dry mostly; the wettest month of the year is usually August, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is June. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay Holiday Inn Express Pagosa Springs, Co is a tremendous choice, and close by you hit upon Echo Canyon which is

| | a perfect site to visit. For the duration of the summertime months highs here at Echo Canyon Reservoir reach the 80's, and the night is a bit colder of course, generally in the 40's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 30's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at Echo Canyon Reservoir temperatures dip to the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. Campground is always a brilliant experience. All year is a fine time in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains if you love the outdoors. Get yourself into a kayak and hit San Juan River; Pagosa Springs Golf Club is a golf course close by.
If only every site had this much outdoors cool things, what a great earth it would be. The Fourmile Stock Trail offers hiking at its best, and camping is available at Wolf Creek Valley Campground. Lakes are great; Pinon Lake Reservoir
is a lake that's next to Echo Canyon Reservoir, and skiing at Wolf Creek is one of those things you just should do. Dry warm beds await you at Oak Ridge Lodge, and you get a fine panorama of Eightmile Mesa from here. Life's too
short to enjoy all the enjoyable things in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Echo Canyon Reservoir; Mill Creek Stock Drive is a great local trail, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop at close by Pagosa Reservoir.

The take out after Mesa Canyon is where Trujillo Rd gets close to the river on R Left @ 37. 125988°, -107. 051072°

 | 11 miles away I am a very close relative of the land owners for a significant portion of the East Fork. There is a couple of miles of river that is private land. Using the river or the land without authorization is tresspassing and is illegal. I am by no means giving you permission to use it. I am simply stating the facts. Please respect the property line and stay on public lands. Other than that enjoy your time in CO and happy rafting.... |
Opal Lake
 | 17 miles away I was raised near this lake and when a child we had to pack horses into this lake. It is not near any campgrounds, and it's over 25 miles to town, not 18. It gets way colder than 0 in the winter but the views are almost correct. It IS beautiful!... |
