here for a while, United Campground of Durango is a great place for that, and there's delightful hiking along the Goodhope Stock Driveway. This lake is so wonderful. You're sure to come across some smiling people from Durango here,
and Animas City Mountain is trouble-free to spot from Chapman Lake.
After a long day outdoors Alpine Motel is a fine spot to spend a night or two. Chapman Lake gets a typical amount of rain; through August this area sees the most
rain, and June is when it's the driest. Gotta ski! Hesperus Ski Center is a delightful site to do that; if you need a location to stay Caboose Motel & Gift Shop is a great choice.
Good hiking is available along the Highline Trail, and right next door to Chapman Lake you stumble on a golf course called Hillcrest Golf Club.
