     Chain Lakes is one of the lakes here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. Summertime highs at Chain Lakes regularly tend to be in the 70's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. Highs during the wintertime are generally in the 30's while Chain Lakes nighttime low temperatures through the winter are in the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. Do stop at Lake Eileen close to Chain Lakes, it's a beautiful lake, and you can stay the night at Vallecito Campground.
 
   Purgatory Lodge by Durango Mountain Resorts is a great place to get some rest, and Blue Spruce Trailer Park is a magnificent campground nearby. But wait, there's more fun things to do in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. Paddling on Canyon Creek is so much fun, and some nearby water includes Berri Creek. Don't leave Chain Lakes without first going for a hike along the Deer Park Trail, and if you're here, you could also visit beautiful Vallecito Reservoir.
 
               This is no spot for people who don’t like to have a good time. Whitewater paddling is great on Vallecito Creek, and there are magnificent locations to look at along the Whitehead Trail. Chain Lakes gets very little rainfall; through August this area sees the most rain while June is mostly the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. Nearby Dark Canyon is a splendid place to go if you're at Chain Lakes, and a glorious close by hotel is Lodge at Tamarron.
Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. While you're here at Chain Lakes it's a splendid idea to check out Freeman Park, and going for a hike on the Pine-Piedra Stock Driveway is always a great adventure.
