This lake is located in the wonderful Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains. Not much precipitation falls here at Castle Rock Reservoir; most of the rain falls through August, and the driest of the months is June. Yep, outdoors cool things to do are in fact bountiful here at Castle Rock Reservoir. Going for a hike along the Monitor Mesa Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area.       There's so much to do here at Castle Rock Reservoir that you need to camp here for a while, Smokehouse Campground is a nice place for that. If you want a nice time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains. Have a wonderful hiking adventure along the Cottonwood Trail, and after a long day outdoors Bunkhouse Motel is a splendid location to spend a night or two. The view of lovely 25 Mesa near Castle Rock Reservoir is glorious, and soar down the rapids of Escalante Creek in a kayak. High temperatures at Castle Rock Reservoir during the summer are in the 90's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Castle Rock Reservoir sink into the 10's. Not far from Castle Rock Reservoir, you'll come across Beaver Reservoir which is a striking lake, and Cottonwood Basin is a fine place to stretch your legs a bit. This lake is so wonderful.
