If you're stopping by Castle Rock Reservoir from Montrose,       you won't be the only one, and close by you hit upon the Cottonwood Trail which is a tremendous hiking trail. There's no way anyone can get bored here in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains. Whitewater paddling is tremendous on Escalante Creek, and while you're here, you could also visit wonderful Bullfrog Reservoir. The Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains scenery is always beautiful. Going for a hike on the Monitor Mesa Trail is always a tremendous adventure, and a                  delightful site like Cottonwood Basin here at Castle Rock Reservoir is too glorious to miss. You'll find a delightful lake called Round Park Reservoir near Castle Rock Reservoir, and Castle Rock Reservoir is splendid enough to spend more than a day at, Smokehouse Campground is a splendid local campground. This lake is so wonderful. Go for a hike on the Moore Mesa Trail, and the peak of 25 Mesa can be spotted from Castle Rock Reservoir. Through the months of summer, highs generally are in the 90's at Castle Rock Reservoir while night lows are regularly in the 60's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and nighttime lows in the 10's for Castle Rock Reservoir.
