Carter Lake is located in the Sawatch Range. Nearby Bear Gulch is a brilliant place to go if you're at Carter Lake; the sight of pretty Quartz Dome is great. Yep, outdoors exciting things to do are really bountiful here at Carter Lake. There is a great hiking trail close to Carter Lake called the Onemile Trail, and nearby you discover the Gunsight Trail which is a fine hiking trail. Carter Lake is typically       a rather dried up place; the wettest month of the year is frequently December, that's the one that snows the most while June is the month with the least amount of precipitation. During the warm days of summer at Carter Lake highs are regularly in the 70's, and all through the night it cools down to the 30's. Highs during the winter are regularly in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Carter Lake are in the-10's. All year is a fine time in the Sawatch                  Range if you adore the outdoors. On a magnificent day at Carter Lake you can take a hike along the Gunsight Trail. So much fun stuff to do here in the Sawatch Range, too great to be true. Super 8 Motel - Gunnison/Crested Butte is a good location to get some rest, and if you don’t have a problem getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Taylor River. This lake is so wonderful. A fine site to camp here at Carter Lake is Gold Creek Campground, and do pay a visit to Black Canyon Of The Gunnison National Park since you're here at Carter Lake.
