Super 8 Castle Rock Colorado is a pleasant site to get some rest, and nearby you find the Balanced Rock Trail which is a great hiking trail. This lake is so wonderful. Golf Club at Bear Dance is a golf course near Cantrill Reservoir; there is a fine hiking trail nearby called the Winding Stairs Trail. Waucondah Reservoir is a nearby lake that you could pop by. A lake close by is Stevens Reservoir Number 2 and 3; if you don't mind getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on South Platte River. Here at Cantrill Reservoir you'll almost certainly meet some people from Denver-Aurora, and going for a hike on the Long Hollow Trail is always a fine adventure. This lake is so wonderful. A perfect place to camp here at Cantrill Reservoir is Colorado Heights Camping, and a great close by hotel is Holiday Inn Express CASTLE ROCK. And that's not all you can do here
at Cantrill Reservoir. An out of the ordinary thing to take a look at right next door to Cantrill Reservoir is Cantrill Dam, and camping at Castle Rock/Colo Springs N KOA is always a fine experience. Summer brings highs in the 80's
to Cantrill Reservoir, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 40's; overnight lows in the 10's for Cantrill Reservoir.

 | nice lake, easy to get to. Fits a couple of canoes. Some marshy area where people train their dogs. Fishing in 2007 was expected to be not the best due to the drought in 2004. We went twice in 2007, kids had a couple of bites, could see some people catching some smaller fish. Good lake for the ''I only have a few hours before the kids games'' kinda place.... |

Keep your eyes open. I've done the trail at least a dozen times, but my wife on her first and only trip found these mountain goats....

Hiked the Stanley Canyon trail with a friend and enjoyed the trail very much up to the reservoir. About half way up there is a ''V'' in the trail and you need to stay to the left or straight ahead. The trail leading up and to the right ends in scree and downed trees. It's a moderately strenuous trail up to the reservoir; but well worth it. Afterwards, we hiked up and past the reservoir and wanted to loop around and hit the lower Stanley trail but were unable to find the trailhead for it. We ended up blazing new ground and coming down Eagle Peak trail much to our surprise.... |

North Catamount Reservoir

For a nice hike/mountain bike ride, this lake has a complete loop around it. About half of it is single track that weaves gradually in and out of coves on the North side of the lake. The south side has a couple good climbs. The rest of the ride is on the roads (Ridge Trail), which offers some nice views of the Peak and glimpses of South Catamount. The best access, in my opinion, is from the Catamount entrance at the end of Edlow Road (Past Woodland Park about 3 miles).... |
