Calkins Lake is mostly a rather dried out site; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and January is the month with the least moisture. South Platte River has a good whitewater paddling spot close by; Union Dam is not far at all from Calkins Lake. This lake is so wonderful. The Mesa Trail offers hiking at its best; dry warm beds await you at Niwot Inn.
