Go for a hike on the Mesa Trail, and drift down the rapids of South Platte River in a kayak. This lake is so wonderful. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always visit close by Ketner Reservoir. At Calkins Lake you always meet someone from Boulder, and at Standley Lake Dam next to Calkins Lake there are some attention-grabbing things to see. During the warm days of summer at Calkins Lake       temperatures are generally in the 80's while night lows are commonly in the 50's. Highs through the wintertime are commonly in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Calkins Lake are in the 10's.
