A lake nearby is Buckhorn Lake Number 1; Storm King is clearly visible from Buckhorn Lakes. Don't leave Buckhorn Lakes without first going for a hike along the Lou Creek Trail, and there are some fine whitewater spots on Cimarron River. Go for a hike on the Deer Creek Trail, and whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Cimarron River. This lake is so       wonderful. Around Buckhorn Lakes you don’t get a lot of rainfall; September is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month is February. Having a fine time at Buckhorn Lakes is trouble-free. Castle Rock is a good place to stop at while in the region, and Cimarron Inn & Motel is a delightful place to get some rest. This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at San Juan Inn, and Big Cimarron Campground is a good campground here. Stay the                  night at Beaver Lake Campground, and nice hiking is available along the Courthouse Trail. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Buckhorn Lakes; the nighttime is a tad colder of course, typically in the 50's.
