There is a perfect hiking trail right next door to Blue Lakes called the Peaks Trail; from Blue Lakes you obtain a pleasant panorama of Steep Mountain. Blue Lakes gets very little rain; August is the month that gets the most rain while January is ordinarily the driest month. The Sangre De Cristo Mountains scenery is always beautiful. Bear Lake is a nearby lake that you could explore; if you came to camp Bear Lake Campground is a nice place to do that. What a place this is for outdoors people. On a good day at Blue Lakes you can take a hike along the Indian Trail. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Blue Lakes.                  All through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 40's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 30's, and overnight lows in the-10's for Blue Lakes. Going for a hike on the Indian Creek Trail is always a delightful adventure.
