Good hiking is available along the Whitehead Trail, needless to say you could also take a look at Elk Lake since you're here; it's not far at all. Head up to Silverton and strap some skis to your feet, and Blue Lake is a brilliant site to visit for more than one day, Thirtymile Campground is a brilliant site to camp nearby.
