we recommend Colorado River. Blue Lake is pretty dehydrated mostly; through the month of October you get the most rain around here, and February is when it's the driest.
Through the months of summer, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Blue Lake while overnight lows are regularly in the 50's. Through the winter the highs are typically in the 30's while Blue Lake night low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. Bison

Lake Campground is a wonderful campground nearby, and glorious skiing awaits you at Sunlight Mountain. If you need a location to stay Quality Inn & Suites On The River is a nice choice, and a tremendous panorama of beautiful Flatiron Mountain is available.
There are other locations here than Blue Lake, for example Yellow Lake, and a pleasant location like Elbow Park here at Blue Lake is too fine to miss. Stay the night at Supply Basin Campground; there are fine places to explore along the Oyster Lake Trail.

located at the foot of Blair Mountain Adams Lake is well worth the trip. Definatly a 4 wheel drive Jeep Trail but only a few miles from Elk lakes, Jet lake, Shadow Lake, Blair lakes , Crater Lake, Deep lake and bison lake. Lots of Cut throat trout, rainbows and browns. Most deffinatly more than a one day trip. Always plan for all kinds of weather, and definitely tent camping only....

Colorado River
I had a blast on the river. The scenery was beautiful. The rapids were awesome and some would come over my head. It was a huge adreneline rush....

Jet lake is also located in the Flat Tops wilderness area so no vehicles allowed but is only about a 15 to 20 minute hike to the lake (an easy pretty flat hike) then about another 15 minute hike into shadow lake , about 15 mor into blair lake and about 15 more into crater lake.
Elk lakes are located about 5 minutes from the wilderness area only 1/2 mile to the parking for jet lakes....

Trappers Lake Campground

I've been going to Yampa since I was around 5 years of age. I'm not usually too keen on seeing new hotels being established in sleepy mountain towns, but The Oak Tree Inn is an exception. It's a welcome addition to this amazing little town and a great retreat when the snows come....
