This site, the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains, has so much outdoors exciting stuff. Gotta ski! Telluride is a pleasant site to do that; don't leave Big Pond without first going for a hike along the Dallas Trail. If you have a thing about the outdoors you'll have a thing about it here in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains. Go for a hike on the Spring Creek Trail; not far from Big Pond you'll discover West Pond which is a striking lake. There are some splendid

| | whitewater spots on Uncompahgre River, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always explore nearby Hofmann Reservoir. This lake is so wonderful. Dead Horse Canyon is a delightful place to explore near Big Pond. Iron Spring Campground is a magnificent local campground, and if you need a location to stay Fairmont Franz Klammer Lodge is a great choice. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Big Pond. into the 40's. During the winter this place gets highs in the 30's; after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Big Pond dip into the 0's. This lake is one of the great places here in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains.
Big Pond is pretty arid usually; during July this area sees the most rain, and June is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. Why not camp at Sunshine Campground while you're here at Big Pond, and there are good locations
to discover along the Alder Creek Trail. You just can't envision the amount of outdoors exciting stuff the area close to Big Pond has to offer. Get yourself into a kayak and hit San Miguel River, and Mountain Lodge at Telluride is a great site to get some rest.
