    Go to Big Meadows Reservoir if you want to go to a nice lake. Summer brings highs in the 70's to Big Meadows Reservoir. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 30's. High temperatures throughout the winter are normally in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Big Meadows Reservoir are in the-10's. The San Juan and Jemez Mountains scenery is always beautiful. This lake is so wonderful. The Spruce Lodge is a wonderful location to get some rest,  
   and the Treasure Mountain Trail is a delightful hiking trail close by.
You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors enjoyable things the area close to Big Meadows Reservoir has to offer. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend Rio Grande; if the weather is good, you can go for a hike along the Highline Trail. Around Big Meadows Reservoir you don’t get a lot of rain; most of the rain falls during July; the driest month
 
               of the year is June. And if that's not sufficient there's heaps more entertaining things to do in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. A quick spree to Black Creek in the neighborhood of Big Meadows Reservoir is a perfect idea, and Big Meadows Reservoir is good enough to spend more than a day at, Park Creek Campground is a good local campground.
This lake is so wonderful. You can spot Heart Mountain from Big Meadows Reservoir, and camping at West Fork Campground is always a great experience. Now, you may assume that's plenty but there's even more exciting things to do here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. If you need a place to stay Allington Inn and Suites is a splendid choice, and there are some glorious whitewater spots on Wolf Creek.
Why not stop by Big Meadows Dam since you're here, and going for a hike along the Lake Fork National Recreation Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood.
