At Big Lake all through the warm days of summer highs are in the 60's. During the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 40's. For the period of the wintertime the highs are usually in the 30's while Big Lake overnight low temperatures throughout the winter are in the 0's. The Bear Lake Trail offers hiking at its best; Platoro Dam has nice water scenery. The high level of precipitation       makes Big Lake a rather wet site; the wettest month of the year is mostly March, that's the one that snows the most, and the driest of the months is June. Now, you may imagine that's lots but there's even more fun stuff to do here at Big Lake. Dry warm beds await you at The Spruce Lodge, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Big Lake; Lake Fork Trail is a wonderful local trail. Man, is there heaps of enjoyable things to do in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains.                  There are some brilliant whitewater spots on Conejos River, and camping at Mix Lake Campground is always a wonderful experience. Nearby lakes? Sure, Platoro Reservoir is right next door to Big Lake; Forest King Mountain is gorgeous and can be seen from here. You truly must go for the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. You could also take a look at Rock Lake if you're here at Big Lake; it's nearby, and Robinson Gulch is a pleasant place to spend some time. This lake is so wonderful. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Conejos Trail, and a perfect place to camp here at Big Lake is Stunner Campground.
