These mountains rock, just explore all the amusing stuff to do in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. There are some nice whitewater spots on Conejos River, and the Bear Lake Trail offers hiking at its best. The high level of rainfall makes Bear Lake a quite wet place; all through the month of March you get the most snow around here, and the driest of the months is June. Bear Lake is right by the Conejos Trail. You'll need more than a day to explore everything
Bear Lake has to offer, you can camp at Stunner Campground.
This lake is so wonderful. A good nearby hotel is Branding Iron Motel, and do take a look at Rock Lake, it's a beautiful lake. The San Juan and Jemez Mountains scenery is always beautiful. While you're here at Bear Lake, you could also pop by beautiful Big Lake, and you can stay the night at Mix Lake Campground.
The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 60's to Bear Lake. All through

the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's; through the dark hours in the winter at Bear Lake temperatures fall to the 0's. You believe that's sufficient? Just getting warmed up. Take a hike on the Lake Fork Trail.

Bear Lake Trail
Bear Lake was surely a disappointment! I'd heard it had good fishing, but after puffing up a long, steep, and confusing trail (we lost our way more than once, delaying our arrival about an hour) we found the lake nearly dry; muddy, and infested with mosquitoes! Next time I'll save myself the bother and fish the Conejos. ...

Trujillo Meadows Campground

In the 16 years that I have lived in the area, there has never been white water ( for rafting, canoeing, kayaking etc. I presume) in the Brazos. I think you are referring to the Chama River which starts in the Colorado San Juans and flows through New Mexico into the Rio Grande in Espanola ,NM. Plenty of white water there in the spring time....You seem to have missed letting people know about the great trout fishing at Trujillo Meadows. I have never been there that I haven't hooked a big one....

Opal Lake
16 miles away
I was raised near this lake and when a child we had to pack horses into this lake. It is not near any campgrounds, and it's over 25 miles to town, not 18. It gets way colder than 0 in the winter but the views are almost correct.  It IS beautiful!...
