     If you need a site to stay Dunton Hot Springs is a magnificent choice; get drenched paddling on Dolores River. All our national parks are magnificent places to stop by, and Mesa Verde National Park is no exception, and nearby you stumble on the Chicken Creek Trail which is a tremendous hiking trail. At Aspen Reservoir you don’t see much rain; throughout March this area sees the most snow while June is typically the driest month.
This lake is so wonderful.
 
   On a good day at Aspen Reservoir you can take a hike along the Lost Canyon Stock Driveway, and Priest Gulch Campground and RV is a good campground nearby. During the days of summer highs here at Aspen Reservoir reach the 70's while night lows are mostly in the 30's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 30's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Aspen Reservoir. Dry warm beds await you at Echo Basin Dude And Guest Ranch, LLC; Transfer Campground  
               is a glorious local campground.
Yep, outdoors amusing stuff to do are truly plentiful here at Aspen Reservoir. Not far from Aspen Reservoir, you'll stumble on Mud Reservoir which is a scenic lake, and it's a wonderful idea to pop by Fish Creek. A short visit to Turkey Point Spring is always worthwhile, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always take a look at nearby Copinger Reservoir. This lake is so wonderful. Hesperus Ski Center is a very popular ski area in the neighborhood, and the Morrison Trail is a nice hiking trail close by.

Mormon Reservoir

The Mormon Reservoir is located on Hay gulch stream before it flows into La Plata River. In the late 1920's the Mormon Church in Utah paid to have the damn across Hay Gulch constructed for the Mormon village of Red Mesa. Water is stored in the reservoir until it is needed for farmers at Red Mesa. The water is released into the La Plata River and is measured for agricultural purposes during the drier part of the summer. Young men from Red Mesa built frame buildings on the rocky and wooded west hillside going into Hay Gulch. Until the damn was completed the workers stayed in these dwellings. All of the work on the earthen damn was done by hand and horse drawn equipment. Dynamite was used to blast boulders used on the damn to hold the water in place until needed. The impounded water becomes undrinkable by early summer when it has a strong odor. Water dogs (salamanders) and tadpoles become prolific as the summer advances.
