Ankele Lake is right by the Ute Trail; if you come at the right time of year, Arkansas River offers some tremendous whitewater. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay Gateway Inn and Suites is a pleasant choice. For the period of the warm months       at Ankele Lake temperatures are generally in the 80's. During the moonlight hours it's generally in the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Ankele Lake plunge into the 0's. If you get bored of Ankele Lake, you could also explore nearby Franz Number 1 Reservoir, and dry warm beds await you at Comfort Inn Salida. This lake is so wonderful. Ankele Lake is not the only place nearby,                  Hunts Lake is a nearby lake; you can have a great hiking adventure along the Simmons Peak Trail. And if you're still looking for more outdoors cool stuff just keep reading. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Arkansas River, and do take a hike on the Hunts Lake Trail. Ankele Lake is pretty dehydrated usually; during the month of August you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is January.
