Get wet paddling on Henson Creek, and Timber Ridge Motel and Campground is a fine campground nearby. What a place this is for outdoors folks. Kendall Mountain is a wonderful local ski area; if you need a place to stay St.Elmo Hotel is a good choice. American Lake is pretty dry commonly; during August this area sees the most rain, and the driest of the months is June. This lake is so wonderful. | | gorgeous Blackwall Mountain is great. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to American Lake, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 30's while the cold winter nights at American Lake are in the 10's. San Juan and Jemez Mountains. This lake is so wonderful. American Lake is right by the Bear Creek Trail, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Mineral Creek - South. American Lake in fact is in the middle of a beautiful outdoors paradise.
So much cool stuff to do here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains, too good to be true. The skiing at Silverton is great; Denver Lake is a magnificent lake nearby. Man, is there a heap of entertaining stuff to do in the San Juan
and Jemez Mountains. Palmetto Gulch is a great place to take a look at in the vicinity of American Lake, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Ridge Stock Driveway. Lakes are such serene locations, why not explore Parson Lake near American Lake; do take a hike on the West Fork Trail.
