American Lake is a great lake in an area with lots of outdoors fun all around. But wait, there's more fun stuff to do in the San Juan Mountains. If you come at the right time of year, Mineral Creek - South offers some glorious whitewater, and if you yearn for a little side journey, try Palmetto Gulch. Around American Lake you don’t get a lot of rainfall; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and June is when it's the driest. American Lake is one

This lake is so wonderful. Have a tremendous hiking adventure along the Ridge Stock Driveway; everybody nearby loves skiing at Kendall Mountain. American Lake is brilliant enough to spend more than a day at, Ridgeway is a brilliant local campground, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Bear Creek Trail. Trail, and everyone loves American Flats.
This lake is so wonderful. Antlers Motel is a splendid location to get some rest, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Henson Creek. Just can't get enough of American Lake. If you need
a place to stay Comfort Inn Ouray is a great choice, and Silverton is a fine local ski area.
Having a magnificent time in the San Juan Mountains is trouble-free. The view of beautiful Blackwall Mountain near American Lake is pleasant;
a great place to camp here at American Lake is Timber Ridge Motel and Campground. All through the long summer days at American Lake temperatures are usually in the 70's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 30's while the cold winter nights at American Lake are in the 10's.
