    It's always fun to stop by Alta Lakes. Dry warm beds await you at Capella Telluride, and whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Mineral Creek - South. Whohoo, so much fun stuff in one place! The Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains is great! Not far from Alta Lakes you get some pleasant water scenery at Middle Alta Lake Dam, and not far from Alta Lakes you'll come across Alta Reservoir Number 3 which is a lovely lake. What a  
   spot this is for outdoors people. If the weather is delightful here at Alta Lakes, you can go for a hike along the Lizard Head Trail, and why not a little side trip to Waterfall Creek.
Going for a hike along the Sheep Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity, and on a pretty day you acquire a good view of Bald Mountain from Alta Lakes. This lake is so wonderful. Hiking along the Deep Creek Trail is tremendous fun; Riverwood Inn and RV
 
               Park is a great local campground. Throughout the summertime here at Alta Lakes, high temperatures frequently get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 40's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 30's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Alta Lakes.
Having a great time in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains is painless. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always explore nearby Middle Alta Lake, and don't leave Alta Lakes without first checking out Ophir Needles. This lake is so wonderful. Life's too short to enjoy all the fun stuff near Alta Lakes. If you come at the right time of year, San Miguel River offers some delightful whitewater, and the slopes of Silverton are so inviting noone can resist.
This lake is so wonderful. If you need a location to stay Mountain Lodge At Telluride is a splendid choice, and nearby you come across wonderful places like Spring Gulch. You just can't picture the amount of outdoors exciting things the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains has to offer. Playing golf is lots of fun at Telluride Ski & Golf Club, and everybody nearby loves skiing at Telluride. Why not camp at Sunshine Campground since you're here at Alta Lakes, and Gold King Basin is a good place.
Not much rain falls here at Alta Lakes; July is the month that gets the most rain while June is the month with the least amount of precipitation. The Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains scenery is always beautiful.
