Tamarack is a beautiful lake, but basically above the timber line and only accessible via a strenuous 16 mile hike (5 miles up from Bearpaw Meadow compground). You will not be doing any ''whitewater paddling'', there is no ''campground'' (you find the best flat spot you can), and don't plan to continue to Lion Lake unless you are an advanced climber (no trail from Tamarack). Hope this helps. Says Jim Arnold
You'll really wish for more hours in a day to enjoy
all the fun things in the Southern Sierra Nevada. Mount Stewart is a peak you can see from Tamarack Lake, and a perfect site to camp here at Tamarack Lake is Cold Spring Campground.
