Tamarack is a beautiful lake, but basically above the timber line and only accessible via a strenuous 16 mile hike (5 miles up from Bearpaw Meadow compground). You will not be doing any ''whitewater paddling'', there is no ''campground'' (you find the best flat spot you can), and don't plan to continue to Lion Lake unless you are an advanced climber (no trail from Tamarack). Hope this helps. Says Jim Arnold
You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all
the enjoyable stuff at Tamarack Lake. From Tamarack Lake you acquire a perfect panorama of Mount Stewart; Copper Mine Pass is also a tremendous place to look at.
