Go to Spring Lakes if you want to go to a nice lake. And that's not all you can do here at Spring Lakes. Inn at Pasatiempo is a good place to get some rest, and golf can be played at Scotts Valley Golf Course. That right there is heaps already, but it carries on; Spring Lakes has it all. In case you don’t have a problem getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on San Lorenzo River; during your visit here you'll meet some folks from Santa Cruz-Watsonville

| | for sure. You just can't picture the amount of outdoors cool stuff the Santa Cruz Mountains has to offer. Camping at Carbonero Creek RV Park is always a tremendous experience, and on a magnificent day it's a tremendous idea to spend the day at Santa Cruz Beach. A visit to Spring Lakes wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Redwood Springs, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always visit nearby Lake Lompico. But wait, there's more | |

exciting stuff to do in the Santa Cruz Mountains. All our national parks are tremendous locations to stop at, and Juan Bautista De Anza National Historic Trail is no exception. Summer brings highs in the 70's to Spring Lakes, and
all through the night it cools down to the 50's. High temperatures all through the wintertime are normally in the 50's, and overnight lows in the 30's for Spring Lakes. Having a good time in the Santa Cruz Mountains is easy. Camping
is available at Santa Cruz Ranch RV Park, and nearby you come across the Sequoia Nature Trail which is a glorious hiking trail. This lake is so wonderful. Lockhart Gulch is a good place to check out nearby; if you need a site to stay
Hilton San Jose South/Scotts Valley is a fine choice. Bean Creek is a nice local stream; the Rincon Fire Road Trail is a nice hiking trail close by. This lake is so wonderful. There is a glorious hiking trail next to Spring Lakes
called the Summit Trail, and not far from Spring Lakes you'll discover Bay Street Reservoir which is a lovely lake. This lake is located in the wonderful Santa Cruz Mountains. The trees of Big Tree Grove are a glorious source of shade
on hot summer days, and Cowell Beach is reasonably close by if you're in a beach type of mood. Spring Lakes sees pretty high levels of precipitation; of all the months in a year January is the one with the most rain, and the driest month is July.

San Lorenzo River
 | 1 PHOTO ...ncon the river spreads out and may be too shallow to float; we had to walk a short distance. Also, at the remains of a concrete diversion dam, teh river splits into two channels. The left-most is the one to take as the right will leave you high and not-quite-dry, though I suppose this may change from year to year.
Where the river goes around the Hogsback there is a lot of large woody debris, including a narrow area with strainers that could be quite dangerous. Recently the county has announced that woody debris will no longer be cleared from county streams in an effort to restore our nearly extinct steelhead populations, and this may make the situation even worse. I don't know whether it will be practical to portage around the woodpile at the point where the river make its final bend toward Paradise Park.
Past the Hogsback, the river goes through a number of very mild rapids, often in narrow willow-lined channels. A special treat is the opportunity to pass under the 1867 Powder Mill Flat covered bridge at Paradise Park, not normally seen by the public as the community i... |
