Snag Lake is a very beautiful lake in beautiful surroundings. You absolutely have to fancy the Northern Sierra Nevada. Good hiking is available along the Lassen Trail, and Coon Hollow is also a fine place to explore. This lake is so wonderful. You'll need more than a day to discover everything Snag Lake has to offer, you can camp at Cherry Hill Campground, and a lake nearby is Lost Lake.
Stay the night at Philbrook Lake Campground; you can go for a hike

on the Yellow Creek Trail. From a rainfall point of view Snag Lake is a rather typical place; during January this area sees the most snow; the driest of the months is July. Summertime highs at Snag Lake mostly tend to be in the 80's, and the nighttime is a tad chillier of course, generally in the 40's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 40's, and overnight lows at Snag Lake through the wintertime mostly descend into the 20's.
Snag Lake is a

beautiful lake in the Northern Sierra Nevada. These mountains rock, just check out all the fun stuff to do in the Northern Sierra Nevada. If you get bored of Snag Lake, you could also stop at close by Philbrook Reservoir, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Feather River - North Fork. This lake is so wonderful. If time allows, Lassen Volcanic National Park is a national park worth a visit, and Bailey Creek Cottages is a fine place to get some rest.
There are some great whitewater spots on Big Kimshew Creek, and there are great spots to discover along the Carter Meadow Trail. Man, is there lots of amusing stuff to do in close proximity to Snag Lake. Scotts John Creek is in the vicinity of Snag Lake and is always a joy to stop by, and dry warm beds await you at Best Western Rose Quartz.

Potato Patch Campground
We camp at Potato Patch campground annually with several other families. It is a very nice campground on a beautiful river. There is not a lot to do nearby though and it is a primitive campground with pit toilets and no showers. There are no hookups for RVs, but we tent camp anyway. We mostly play by the river (very cold water). Our attraction is the beauty and the people we camp with. We used to fish, but it is all catch and release. I can definitely recommend it but you have to be looking for a relaxing and beautiful setting and mostly doing not much of anything.

Hole in the Ground Campground

I ALSO HAVE GONE CAMPING AT HOLE IN THE GROUND SINCE I WAS A LITTLE GIRL I WOULDNT HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY I LOVE IT THERE AND NOW SO DO MY KIDS....
I've been going to hole in the ground, off and on for 40 years. From when I was a kid hiking in the forest, tubing down the creek, swimming in the pools, and fishing for planted trout that the hatchery would toss in the creek. Now it is a restricted salmon run, there is no planters and restrictions on the type of tackle you can use. The fishing was great as a kid. I like how peaceful it is, with the sound of creek and an occasional bluejay chirping. I enjoy cooking on the wood stoves. There are only a hand full left, (what a shame). I will be meeting one of my brothers and dad at the hole in three weeks. My large family with foster children love going to the hole. Some have been before and some will experience it for the first time. **lot of good memories**...

Lake De Sabla
15 miles away
Lake De Sabla has a public group event area across the Skyway from the lake that rents out for about $50/day. Restrooms, small amphitheater, kitchen area, great horseshoe pits, picnic tables for 150 people, lots of hiking trails. Good area for parties, birthdays, reunions, whatever....

Black Rock Campground
18 miles away
Went fly fishing there for a day, it was great. Were leaving today to go on a camping trip there....Black Rock is a very beautiful place to go visit. The roads are very narrow and there are a lot of cliff sides. My grandfather lived out there for a few years on a ranch which borders the Ishi trail. I have walked the Ishi trail and that is a beautiful experience as well. It runs along a river. The whole drive in there is pretty amazing you can see the valley below plus the Big Black Rock sticking out of the ground it looks more like its own mountain....
