Whohoo, so much fun stuff in one place! The Southern Cascade Range rocks! There's so much to do here at Smokey Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Northshore Campground is a fine spot for that; why not have a look at nearby Deadman Creek if you're here at Smokey Lake. Now, you may imagine that's lots but there's even more exciting stuff to do here in the Southern Cascade Range. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Pit River; there is a tremendous hiking
trail close by called the Pacific Crest Trail - section 17. This lake is so wonderful. Curtis Lake is a wonderful lake next to Smokey Lake, and going for a hike on the Rough and Ready Trail is always a great adventure.

If you came to camp Rim Campground is a brilliant place to do that; glide down the rapids of Pit River in a kayak. Dry warm beds await you at Dunsmuir Inn & Suites; the Coal Mine Trail is a wonderful hiking trail nearby.
This lake is one of the great places here in the Southern Cascade Range. A good deal of precipitation falls at Smokey Lake; the wettest month of the year is mostly January, that's the one that rains the most; July on the other hand is the driest. Kemp Flat is a nice spot here at Smokey Lake, and there are other sites here than Smokey Lake, for example Owl Lake.
This lake is so wonderful.

This peak is trailless, meaning a portion or all of the route up the mountain is via an unmarked trail. For this particular mountain, the typical route is known as a ''herd path'' which is not much more than a worn, but unmarked trail. Some of the herd paths are easy to follow, others are not. In many instances the hiker will travel down a false herd path and eventually have to correct his/her course via backtracking. For these particular mountains, it is imperative that the hiker carry a compass (and know how to use it) and topographic map....
