Young America Lake
 | 1 PHOTO I fished this lake a couple of years ago, after a long hard hike through roocks and brush from Upper Sardine Lake, I found the lake FULL of stunted Brook trout, the Golden Trout may have all died out due to someone planting these brookies into the lake, probably an air drop by a lost fish and game dept. airplane. The hike in and out feom below is miserable and hazardous, from the upper trail, it might be better. The photo here is from above. All in all it was a huge disappointment as far as the trout were concerned!... Small glacial Lake or tarn. Rockbound; located on the north side and in the shadow of the Sierra Buttes in a spectacular setting. Frozen much of the year. Route in is cross country - no formal trail. Stocked with golden trout.... |
Wild Plum Campground
 | 10 miles away Wild Plum is an excellent place to camp for all ages. Most camp spots are right next to a beautiful rushing river and there is a small lake and waterfall (seasonal) within a 10 minute walk across the river. The lake is deep enough for cliff jumping!! Bathrooms are available, though they are like most campground bathrooms (non flushing). Black Bears come around now and again, but they're really no problem at all. Beautiful hiking! I love this place... |

Faucherie Lake
 | 17 miles away This lake is a long drive and there are 9 other nice lakes on the road to Faucherie. Very windy and rugged country, the fishing is tough but persistence pays. Used to be private and secluded, but now is very populated and has lost it's private feel. I recomending hiking 5 miles up the canyon to the next lake to get away from the citidits....The place is ridden with Mosquitos, Wasps, and Bears. The wind always picks up and blows through the group site, and makes most activities miserable. The drive up is NOT worth it. Avoid the group site. There are tons of sites down the dirt road along the creek which offer better protection from the wind. Best to camp someplace closer to civilization. The drive is not worth it... |
Soda Springs
 | 29 miles away 4 PHOTOS ...ir first day out on snow. There is no long haul carrying gear from a far off parking structure. It's car to slopes with little effort. The lifts are all within site. The niche Soda carves is one that takes families into the sport without immersing them into high priced, high paced resorts that can be all too intimidating. The snow tubing is all about big smiles and tummy ticklers. Its got all the atmosphere of fresh snow, beautiful mountain scenery and an escape from all that is hectic below the tree line. Kids line up each and every weekend to enjoy. Planet Kids, geared for children ages 8 or younger and under 42'' tall now has 2 tubing carousels, a tubing lane and more! Planet Kids' main feature is a NEW Moving carpet designed to help kids go up the small slope and teach them how to get down. Just a short 40 foot slope gives kids plenty of room to learn how to stop and turn. Open daily from 10am to 3pm, rental equipment is included in the Planet Kids package.
