Stay the night at Pyramid Campground, and Smith Lake is right by the Highland Trail. This lake is so wonderful. The Red Peak Trail offers hiking at its best; whitewater paddling is wonderful on Silver Creek - South Fork. Smith Lake is one of the lakes here in the Northern Sierra Nevada. You're most likely addicted to lakes, Twin Lakes is one of those nearby, and after a long       day outdoors Pine Cone Acre Motel is a good place to spend a night or two. This is no place for people who don’t like to have fun. Nearby lakes? Sure, Hemlock Lake is in the neighborhood of Smith Lake, and if you don’t have a problem getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on American River - South Fork. This lake is so wonderful. The skiing at Homewood is good, and Blue Mountain is a peak you can see from Smith Lake. So many enjoyable things                  to do in the Northern Sierra Nevada, not enough time. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Smith Lake; Windmiller Trail is a wonderful local trail. You'll need more than a day to discover everything Smith Lake has to offer, you can camp at Thirty-nine Mile Campground. Smith Lake gets a normal amount of annual precipitation; January is the month that gets the most snow while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Through the warm months at Smith Lake temperatures are generally in the 70's. Summer nighttime lows sink down to the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Smith Lake.
