The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby June Mountain, and lakes are such calm locations, why not stop by Red Lake. During the warm days of summer at Skelton Lake temperatures are generally in the 70's. Summer night lows plunge down to the 40's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Skelton Lake are in the 20's. Cold Water Campground is       a magnificent local campground, and there is a good hiking trail nearby called the John Muir Trail - section 2. This lake is so wonderful. The vistas at Devils Postpile National Monument will blow your mind, and San Joaquin River - South Fork has a good whitewater paddling spot close by. Now, you may imagine that's plenty but there's even more entertaining stuff to do here at Skelton Lake. This location, the Central Sierra Nevada, has so much outdoors entertaining                  things. For you golfers we recommend nearby Snowcreek Golf Course, and if you don't mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Mono Creek. This lake is so wonderful. On a glorious day at Skelton Lake you can take a hike along the Mammoth Rock Trail, and Arrowhead Lake is a splendid lake nearby. Around Skelton Lake you don’t get a lot of precipitation; the month with most of the rain is January; June is the month with the least moisture. Mammoth Mountain is a very popular ski area in the vicinity; a good close by hotel is Rodeway Inn Sierra Nevada. The Sherwin Lakes Trail is a brilliant hiking trail close to Skelton Lake, and if you need a place to stay Snowcreek Resort is a great choice.
